Trauma Rehabilitation Solutions

Rehabilitation is a key aspect of healing after a trauma. Whether you are suffering from pain after an auto collision, a work injury, or a slip and fall, the proper approach is key. In today’s world, there is so much information out there that it can be confusing to chose the right solution.

There are three main paths that most people consider when it comes to rehabilitation. They all contain their pros and cons. The trick is in the timing – each of the treatment options has a time and place where they can provide the maximum amount of benefit towards the patient. For true rehabilitation to occur, we need to dive deeper into the structure, mobility, and neurology of the body.

Medications

Medications are the most popular approach that people chose when it comes to rehabilitation after a trauma. The appeal lies in the sheer effectiveness and speed with which medications “work.” After taking a medication (whether it is over-the-counter or a prescription medication), the effect typically happens very quickly. However, medications are a short-term solution and often carry side-effects. They help mask the pain and relieve certain symptoms, while often causing other symptoms. During the initial “acute” phase of care, medications are helpful.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a crucial treatment solution post-trauma because it deals with the musculoskeletal and nervous systems of the body. It is common for misalignments in the spine to occur during traumas. The muscles and ligaments are sprained and strained. This weakens the spinal bones and allows the spinal bones to shift out of place. This is further complicated by the fact that misaligned segments of the spine begin to cause stress of the nerve roots that are exiting in between the spinal bones. Those nerve roots branch out and head out to various parts of the body – soft tissues and organs. For rehabilitation to happen, the structure of the spine must be healthy.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is another treatment option that helps with mobility and motion. The focus of physical therapy is the muscles, ligaments and tendons of the body. This is an important aspect of rehabilitation since after traumas, scar tissue will begin to form. Regaining proper motion in the joints is critical to prevent further traumas.
