THE OVERLOOKED ORGAN

The skin is the largest organ in the human body, it functions as a supplemental organ to the kidney helping to filter and eliminate any waste from the blood. When the bloodstream is overwhelmed with toxins and the liver, kidneys and other elimination organs can’t keep up the skin pushes toxins out through the skin. We can use the appearance of the skin to gauge the general health of the rest of the body. Spots, dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, dark under eye circles, and acne are all signs that the body is not functioning as well as it should.

HOW DID I TURN TOXIC?

You may be eating healthy nutritious foods but because of leaky gut, your body is still being overwhelmed with a toxic load and your skin is suffering because of it. Leaky gut occurs when the lining of the digestive tract becomes damaged. The damage occurs over time and is usually due to the consumption of things like processed foods, medications, alcohol and can even be a result of too much stress. These things cause the tight barriers within the gut lining to become disrupted, resulting in holes or cracks that allow undigested food particles, toxins, and microbes to leak thru the lining and enter the blood stream. These foreign objects obviously do not belong in the bloodstream, so the body triggers an inflammatory immune response. This immune response typically serves to fight infections and disease, but because of the leaky gut, it’s now fighting your own cells. This results in chronic inflammation. The kidney and liver become overwhelmed with the amount of blood that needs to be filtered, and they simply cannot keep up. As a result, the skin steps in to help clear the body of the inflammation causing materials by pushing them out through the skin. This sounds helpful until you are left with eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea and other disruptive skin disorders as a result.

DO I HAVE LEAKY GUT SYNDROME?

You may have leaky gut syndrome if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Chronic diarrhea, constipation or bloating
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Confusion
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Joint pain
  • Skin problems, such as acne, rashes, or eczema

HEAL YOUR GUT, YOUR SKIN WILL THANK YOU

The standard treatment for skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and acne are topical corticosteroid creams and ointments. Many people suffering from these skin conditions are all too familiar with the fact that although these medications may relieve some of the uncomfortable symptoms associated with the skin disorder, they do not address the underlying cause, and as a result the skin issue keeps coming back. To remove the burden of excessive detoxification from the skin and address the root cause of skin disorders, we must first address the leaky gut. Our doctor guided and patient tailored Metabolic Reset Protocol consists of three main phases that focus on restoring gut health to eliminate the source of chronic inflammation. To explain the three phases, we like to use the example of rebuilding a house that has once caught on fire.

Phase 1- Heal and Seal

When a house is on fire, calling a carpenter to rebuild the house is not a priority. The priority is calling the fire department to extinguish and contain the fire so it doesn’t spread. The same thing applies to your gut. Phase one focuses on first putting out the fire or inflammation in your gut lining and sealing off any gaps that may have developed from years of inflammation.  This step is critical as the gut must be free of inflammation and sealed off to begin healing.

Phase 2- Detox

Once the fire is out and the area is sealed, the aftermath of the fire remains. Phase two focuses on the removal of the debris left behind from inflammation causing intestinal invaders. This step clears the gut of any harmful toxins, infections, microorganisms while also supporting your stress response by addressing cortisol and insulin.

Phase 3- Restore and Replenish

Now that the fire has been extinguished and debris cleared, it’s time to call the carpenters to rebuild. Phase three focuses on balancing the acidity of the stomach and replenishing it with beneficial bacteria to create a balanced micro-biome.
